Origins of Horny Goat Weed

Horny Goat Weed (Epimedium sagittatum), also commonly known as barrenwort, is a hardy evergreen flowering plant native to China, amongst a few other areas in Asia and the Mediterannean region. Horny Goat Weed is said to have been named after a Chinese goat herder noticed an increase in sexual activity in a flock of goats after they had been grazing on the plant. 

The plant has also been used by humans, specifically within Traditional Chinese Medicine, for centuries as a supplement and dietary additive. 

The main active ingredient in Horny Goat Weed is a flavonoid called icariin.
